What if Lee died instead of Neji?

Hey, i just wanted to see your opinions about something; what if Lee died in a scenario he sacrificed his life for Neji(i don't see why he would do the same thing for Hinata) by jumping in front of those wooden spikes; would Gai reacted the same way he reacted for Neji's death; like would he gone ape**t and already would have opened the 8th gate, or just keep his calm and wait for the right time, though i thought it was the right time like many people. I mean, he said something like "don't let the death of you comrades get into you, or else things would get worse" at the beginning of the war to random nin; but Neji was his student, it is different i think(maybe he would go apes**t later?).Is Gai really have that kind of favortism? And would Neji cry or care as much Lee did, since rivalry seems really important in Naruto(but crying like that not in his character, he would probably mourn his loss in his own way, afterall it is a scenario Lee dies for him). Tenten is emotionless as f***, i don't know what to say, but her reactions to Lee's crying made me think that she might actually like Lee. Others wouldn't matter, the only difference would be view on Naruhina and Naruto saying "imma keep real bushybrows right here!"
By the way i am new around here and if there was a thread made about it, i possibly wouldn't know

Well if Lee had died instead of Neji then I really would have cried.

I can't deal with Lee dying, I hope they don't do it. Guy seems like the more likely candidate to die in this war. Which to be honest isn't that much better. D':

Gai would probably get really mad, Neji would probably have silent tears, same for tenten pretty much, Naruto would be pretty affected to since they were both known as failures

Well, I must say that I do think it would have affected both Gai a lot more, and probably Naruto too. Naruto would probably have acted similarly (Being close to breaking down), and Gai would probably have become furious, and gone Eight Gates. Remember, Gai even stated something along the lines of "If you die, I die". Possible forshadowing ?

Gai most likely would not overreact, because he himself stated many times that you will see those you care about die in a war and you have to keep going. He's prepared for anything.

Tenten is a true shinobi, placing her emotions regarding situations like death to the side in order to focus on the battle.

Neji probably would have reacted like Tenten.

Lee surprised me slightly due to being on Team Guy where they were trained to be strong in all aspects, but he was always the most emotional of the group.

Guy may have been hypocritical there; he would have forsure reacted intensely if Lee died. They are father and son in all ways that matter.

Strength doesn't define emotion..he cried basically cuz Neji was his rival and his team mate.They had a strong bond. If Gai lost Lee we would see a different Gai all together. Tenten i always thought she had a thing for Neji but I think she has grown more closer with Lee then I thought.

Killing Rock Lee is like shooting the dog in a film. It's just something you don't do, killing something with such innocence is just too far and ruins all hopes of it being emotionally enjoyable, it's a golden rule.

I'm not too fussed about deaths in Naruto, Kishimoto kills off all my favourites frequently (Deidara, Tayuya, Kabuto) so it doesnt affect me too much but if Kishimoto does (and it is very likely) kill off funny, likeable characters like Guy, Killer Bee & Rock Lee I will be genuinely upset.

Lee's personality is up front and loud while Neji's is calm and he keeps his emotions to himself, if Lee died for him we would see Neji lower his head and have a few tears roll down his cheek, Gai sensei would react the same trying to keep his emotions in check, Gai may love Lee like a son but Gai isn't stupid to lose his cool and go "ape***t" Gai's a shinobi who has already taken part in a war, he has lost comrads to war and can obviously hold back his anger and saddness same with Kakashi
