I'll say plausible.. It doesn't seem likely, but it is entirely possible if Kakashi is as strong as Kishi makes him out to be. Of course we now know that you "unlock" the Rinnegan. So it's just a matter of getting to that point. Madara didn't do it until he was about to die. Tobi.. Who the hell knows. Nagato supposedly got it from Tobi. Other than that, I'm not really sure.

I have to agree that the Rinnegan would most likely be followed shortly thereafter by his demise. I think he'd be able to make his mark tho', it's not like he'd get the Rinnegan, and follow over.
