You could definitely argue that, to a certain extent. I think that in his final moments, he felt a sense of liberation, considering his plan had come to a successful end (or so he thought) and he could finally take off all the stress, pain, and burden off of his shoulders.

But going off his character and what Kishimoto was trying to emphasize (both in the plot and for Sasuke's development), the main reason he smiled was just because he was happy to be able to return back to being a big brother, even if it was only for a few seconds, and say bye to Sasuke
