If the translation is correct, it's definitely 8th gate. Gai has talked about doing it a few times now, and they've alluded several times to it. Gai always talks about youth, and if he dies now he won't ever have a chance to grow into old age.

I highly doubth that guy is in the eigth gate.. This was the seventh gate and you can clearly see the force was powerful enough to split the water aroung and and fill the air with his sweat.
