What I don't understand...

Okay now this is in regard to Nagato and Madara's eyes.

When Madara's eyes changed from the sharingan to the rinnegan, they were still the same eye, right? It's not as if they became to separate pairs of eyes. Now when Nagato was given the rinnegan, he should have in theory, been able to switch between the rinnegan and the sharingan like Madara, considering they are the same eye.

Nagato was never shown doing this however, possible due to the inability to do so, or the lack of knowledge about how the sharingan works/is activated. But still would Nagato have had the potential to switch between them both if he was told how to?

I may be talking crap, but it's something that had got me wondering a bit.

People with implanted eyes can't switch back to a previous stage, but can switch to a next stage IF they went through it themselves. Kakashi can turn his sharingan into a MS for example, but can't turn his sharingan off.

Same goes for Obito. He's an Uchiha, yet he hasn't taken advantage of the fact the the stage before the Rinnegan is an EMS.

Thanks that makes sense . However, for Obito, I don't think he could turn to EMS, mainly because he only implanted one rinnegan, therefore, even if he could switch back it would be odd to have the standard MS and a single EMS. Still had me confused for some time, cleared up now though.

That's because at the time of being implement, it was only a regular sharingan, if I understand what Animaeon said.

Sorry... I meant that Kakashi is able to switch back and forth between the sharingan and MS, because he went through those two stages, but he can't turn off his sharingan and go back to Obito's normal black eye. That's just off-limits, for the same reason why Nagato and Obito can't go back to an EMS (unless voids is right about needing two eyes, that's possible).

nw i understand a little bit..kakashi and nagato have similler cases..a doujutsu was implanted in them..
Kakashi had normal sharingan when it was implanted..it got devlped into ms when he saw rin's death..meaning..HE,HIMSELF DEVLPD THE DOUJUTSU..so he can switch back and forth bt cant deactivate it coz he isnot an uchiha
whereas,when nagato got implants it was COMPLETELY DEVLPD doujutsu..he didnt modify anything on his own..so he cant switch it and since he is nt an uchiha..he cant deactivate it either
