you mean in 699? that was the other half of kurama, if you mean in 700, he's just sleeping inside naruto most likely having a break. most of part 1 he was mostly sleeping anyway.

I don't think it was outside Naruto's body....since...Naruto would die if he was extracted. He told Naruto that he would be put to sleep once he used the last of his chakra to stop Sasuke....I guess that sleep is a semi eternal one

look on the floor to where he is sleeping you see his drooling splashing on the watery surface of where him and naruto usually meet.
