What happened with that black sphere Madara threw, and why didn't it explode? It was supposed to go forward until it contacts something, but how?

But here it seems that the ball moved back again, wtf? Someone here said that Minato did that, but it was not in this case, because Minato's kunai didn't contacted it somehow it just moved forward and landed on the ground around Madara or it just went around randomly.

But any thoughts about what exactly happened with that ball Madara threw?

But it doesn't make any sense.... He could just let it continue with that black ball moving forward against the others just to test them, imo.
