What happened with Sai?

Dude, I don't know who else thought of this, but when Sai was saying "I'm part of Team 7 too" then attempted to strike and then shot down after like 2 brief pages, I believe it was Kishi saying, "Haha no" to this. What do you guys think?

lol Sai may lack power, but he is the artist. He has the extra perspective the other members seem to lack. Remember his forte is assassination. He provided Team 7 with the insight and strategy to reach the Juubi.

For what it's worth Sai could've killed Sasuke while in Orochimaru's hideout, as his mission dictated. Unfortunately, he just isn't meant to be a member of Team 7
