Hiruzen's excuse for transferring him was that they needed him for Naruto, but the next time we see him is 12 years after that. Couldn't he have helped Naruto control the Kyuubi MUCH sooner? He could have at least been there when Jaraiya was trying to help him control it during the chuunin exams, he could have also stopped Gaara.
