What's up guys FanficSama here, I wanted to give my take on what role religion might play in NV and how it could be a new direction for Naruto franchise if they ever decide to keep milking.
Reason I wanted to is because I find it odd that most of Naruto's content is based on religion but characters themselves are anything but. Most of this thread is fanfic personal opinion so don't take my word..

Idols are often misrepresented by intolerable groups in real life, so what are the chances that certain groups of people begin to follow Naruto's philosophy religiously and become intolerant themselves ?
Kaguya and the Sage were both worshipped as gods, the Sage even had his own religion that Naruto unknowingly followed and promoted.
Is there a chance history will repeat itself ? Naruto did do the impossible by uniting the world along with saving it, all while possessing what is deemed to be godly power.
Sounds familiar
Granted that the current shinobi generation is experiencing technological advancement, is it still possible that a group of extremists emerge and try to use Naruto's name as an excuse to cause tyranny ?
World peace has been achieved in NV but as we know peace never lasts, I think all it would take is for one war to occur in order for the people to be deeply divided on whether Naruto's philosophy was right or wrong.
This could lead to a problem because NV might find itself in a position where the majority are either for change at all costs or against it by all means (far left vs far right).
Faiths are often made to prevent people from straying from a belief that society and its leaders benefit from, it would be interesting to see a group on Naruto's side being the antagonist, using Naruto as a justification to do wrong in the name of what they consider right.
The entire franchise revolved around milking the Senju vs Uchiha theme and I think this would be a good way to keep it relevant without forcing Uchiha and Senju characters into the plot.
