Hashirama simply got feats to put him above Hiruzen. There was nothing fanboyish about saying Hiruzen was stronger than Hashirama before this war arc with what we had at the time that was the case.

I know right? Maybe if Kishi showed us, 'prime', Hiruzen, we could gauge his actual strength. Though, based on Kishi's track record, I doubt it will happen.

It's simple; Kishi changed his 'God of Shinobi' and ignored what he said in the past. Most of those that supported Hiruzen were not fan; they simple stated a manga fact which is now removed to Hashirama.
