Every bio out there mentions there was 'a falling out' between Asuma and his Hokage pappy, but I haven't found any concrete answers as to what that entailed. It's been a while since I've read the manga, so will someone please remind me if they said what happened between the two? And if it wasn't stated, I guess some speculation would be welcome.

It wasn't so much a falling out as a disagreement- Asuma thought that the king (feudal lord) was the most important person and top priority and that's why he went to become one of the 12 guardians of the fire nation. But then he figured out the "King" is actually the next generation which includes his students and child xd

I don't think there was ever a falling out to a bad degree. It is more like Asuma wishing to gain direct and verbal recognition from his father, but never recieved any direct form of recognition. When he understood the whole concept of "the king", I believe he finally understood that he was very important and cared about by his dad.

Just a disagreement, Asuma then left the village for a while and became a member of the Twelve Guardian Ninja. But he came back latter.

The others have answered it pretty well. Guadian Shinobi 12 to protect the feudal lord but then realised that the people he should protect is the village.

Thanks y'all! I appreciate it. And that is a good question. Odd that Hiruzen's children are never mentioned in any great deal of importance. Even Asuma was only a minor character in the long run.

it was because Asuma thought protecting the "king" was to protect the Daimyou. But it seems that it was not even the Kage who is the "king" but the future generation as asuma told shikamaru on his death bed ( first time aha)
