When you examine the Orochimaru vs Itachi fight the ending seems very peculiar. For some reason Kishimoto decided to draw a white snake escaping after Orochimaru had been sealed.
The Events
As we know Itachi seals Orochimaru away with the Totsuka sword.
One white snake manages to escape being sealed and tries to slither away.
This snake seems to have escaped and as we know Itachi dies. He is dead and it appears a part of Orochimaru's white snake power has evaded Itachi.
Even, though he is dead the left over flames of Itachi's power Amaterasu continues to spread.
It burns the trees and interestingly enough the LEAVES are blown onto the remaining White Snake.
The white snake is completely incinerated and dies.
Now this could have been a mere coincidence by Kishimoto, but I doubt it.
My interpretation.
I personally think Kishimoto was foreshadowing what would happen in the future. Itachi was able to kill Orochimaru and seal him away. Unfortunately, Orochimaru's white snake powers survived and found a new host in Kabuto. Kabuto symbolises the white snake. Kabuto manages to continue slithering about and Itachi dies.
Even, though Itachi is dead his power continues to play a role. Later on he is brought back by Edo Tensei. In the end it is Itachi's Amaterasu carried by a Leaf, which kills the final white snake. I think this may hint, that though Itachi is dead now his power will ultimately bring down Kabuto. Either Itachi will do it himself by breaking Edo Tensei as a Leaf shinobi, or it will be a weapon he has left to a Leaf ninja. Maybe the power he left Naruto or some how someone will gain one of his weapons. Therefore, even though he has died just like with the Uchiha battle, he will still finish of the white snake.
Now some people may say I am reading far too much into those scenes, but Kishimoto must have stuck them there for a reason. Why else show a white snake escaping the Totsuka sword only to burn to death later? Why else have the flames, that burned the white snake float down carried by a leaf?
