Sasuke can't really counter it, per se. One hit and he's ****ed. Nothing in Sasuke's offensive arsenal could reasonably clash with a Sekizo, especially not if Guy caged him with it like he did Madara.

He has very few options when it comes to defense. Ama and Kagu's effectiveness depends on Sasuke's reaction time. Presuming he had both intel and time to create a black flame bubble around himself on all sides, how long would it take for Sasuke's eye to give out on him and lose control of the flames? Would he be able to outlast Guy?

Ameno can certainly keep Guy at bay for three uses before its cooldown, but what about the last two Sekizo punches? Could Ameno be an option if he's actually hit and trapped by the move, assuming he's not instantly turned into mulch by the pressure coming in from all directions?

Perfect Susanoo is probably Sasuke's most reliable defense against Sekizo, only because there's no evidence that Guy's power would be effective at all against it.

EDIT: I forgot the fact that Sekizo is technically a ranged attack as well. Gai doesn't really have to get close, so that black flame bubble might not be a hypothetical defense after all. One Sekizo punch from afar pushes the flames away and hits Sasuke.

Yes, Madara didn't fight seriously against Guy or as you can say he didn't really use anything from his arsenal like Limbo or Perfect Susanoo, so in Sasukes case it might be different, but the speed and the power of 8th gates would be too much in the end.

Try reading what I said in the below post. Edo Madara who is weaker than when he was alive, easily took down 5 Kage opponents and called it child's play; Gai needed 6th and 7th gate to beat a weakened and down powered Kage level ninja and even if the 8th gate is a higher powerup, it's not going to be that high that it would take him to a level where he can make a serious alive Madara be close to death. PS tanks anything Gai has and Madara can just chill and watch Gai dies or make 25 clones in Susanoo to fight as he watches. A katon from Madara is huge as shown when Edo Madara and Obito tried roasting the Alliance who all needed KM Naruto to save them. When Gai first activates the 8th gate is when he have to get use to the feeling of his body being damaged which made him hesitate for a bit in the manga which Madara can capitalize on if he was serious.

Plus EMS Madara has Full Kurama as a summon.

Yup, EMS Madara took on full Kurama's TBB and Gai has nothing close to that is destructive power so Madara will chill in his Susanoo and relax; Madara body is tough enough to take blows from all 9 Bijuus and laughed it off and he has Hashirama healing (got it before getting Rinnegan so EMS Madara does has it and wood jutsus. EMS Sasuke was starting to see JJ Madara's speed as a new EMS user, what do you think a master EMS user can do?

Gai needed 5th and 6th gates to fight and beat a clone Kisame at 7.5% his reserve (was 30% but he made 3 clones so 30/4=7.5%). He needed 7th gate to beat a weakened Kisame who didn't have Samehada; sure his base could have improved since then but Edo Madara who is weaker than when he was alive, took down 5 Kage level opponents and called it child's play. He take it seriously at all so yes an alive Madara taking a fight serious will be able to beat 8th gate Gai.
