you usually don't crush a village to fins something within it.

He was masking as the Kazekage and snoop around the forest of death personally.If he was looking for something it would of been hinted at or mentioned by now.Besides what is more important then his goal that we all know of that he had to destroy the leaf ?

I am not trying to smite you down but i highly doubt it something that simple

As for me i have no clue what his true reason might be ........for now anyway.

I was so set in oro being pure evil and nothing more.Maybe there is more to him.

He is strongly motivated and we have had hints as to why he is the way he is.Maybe we will get more info on his past or inner feelings soon /:

To save the village, Hiruzen was a retarded Hokage, too weak and naive. Someone like Danzo or himself would have rule better and not allow a Trojan Horse attack during Chunin Exams.

The fragile state of life and the eventual transition of death ?

Well seeing how he was pointed out to have a fixation on being immortal and what happened to his parents
That is most likely what made him the way he is now but the last chapter hints at something more.

We know what drives his ambition but we know very little of what orochimaru feels inside and what he thinks about other then obtaining a new body and avoiding death.

It was said that orachimaru's decision to crush the leaf was made on a whim or sudden choice. He probably thought it up while slithering around in his lair.
