I'm sure you guys are familiar with dehumanization achieved by covering faces or equating others to beast, but I'm referring to a different idea. I mean the dehumanization that's achieved by painting other's sole motivation as some specific psychological reason.
It's arguable that acknowledging others have psychological motivation is the opposite of dehumanization since it accredits a very human phenomenon to them, but I think that changes when it's zeroed in and becomes the focus.

It becomes akin to failing to see a forest for the trees. A lot more goes in within a person's head &, honestly, the fixation effectively warps into an ad hominem of sorts that allows a person to disregard the subject's other characteristics or easily construe them as part of the psychological condition they're accused of. I think I've explained what I mean well enough, so here's some examples.

Long example.
Every once in a while I run into these ridiculous documentaries. Most recently, I saw one dumbing down Karen Carpenters' entire dilemma with anorexia as a means of exerting control because she felt she couldn't do otherwise in other parts of her life and jealousy of sorts. I cannot find it, but I did find another documentary that shows pretty much the same idea of the fixation.

Dreckerplayer was one of the few people who consistently surprised me, and even if i dislike him and see him as an asshole, he at least makes enjoyable reads.

On topic though, i dont understand what you mean. It doesnt really make sense.

Like, numbing people's actions down to things such as narcissism or being a control freak or yada yada. It becomes less about a person and more about what this stereotypical thing craves. What do you think about the usage of this?

It depends. In a lot of contexts it can be right. E.g. a person could be depressed, but it might be because theyre not pursuing a solution to the problem that theyre having, thus they wallow further in self pity and doubt and seek sympathy as a result of it. It becomes a coping mechanism.

In fact i used to do the same thing. The person whos doing it would never admit to it, but these sorts of things happen.

It is called Dehumanization Behavior or Self-dehumanization. I read around and basically, it's a convenient excuse for your flaws, where it's pass off as a slipup as "only human."
