[Discussion] What do I say?

My girlfriend just texted me saying that her dog is going to have to be put down tomorrow. Her family has had the dog for 15 years, so the dog means a lot to her. What should I say? Because I really have no idea other than, "I'm sorry."

Go and be with her. I'm sure that alone will mean a lot to her.

"She/he will be in a better place" (dog heaven)
Or just be by her side and comfort her.

I really wish I could help, but that's all I know as well. i'm really bad at supporting people when they are going through depressive situations. I mean, I'm really bad. When a girl is crying, be her a friend, or even my girlfriend, I don't know what to say. I mean, I just say "I'm sorry, I know it's hard, but it will pass" then I hug her, ot not, it depends.

I'm really bad at this.

I'm actually going to go hang out with her right now. lol I was just curious on what to say because I know it'll end up coming up sometime tonight.

Even though it can seem like not enough, sometimes a heartfelt "I'm really sorry" conveys your feelings just fine, and is usually appreciated.

Be with her. Support her through this tough time. She'll be emotionally scarred for now, but knowing you're there will help soothe some of the pain. Plus she'll probably love/like you a lot more for this.

You can be honest, just be like "I really am at a loss for words, I am very sorry to hear about this...just know that I am here for you as a shoulder to cry on if you want. Its not easy, but puppies in a better place it sounds like rather than suffering"

Just don't mention getting another dog lol and maybe in a week or two, get her some flowers or something but don't relate it to the dog. Just "do it" because you wanted too
