What did Obito mean by "If Itachi new everything about me, I'd be dead"?

Many people take this scan to mean that Obito confessed that Itachi was stronger than him.

My interpretation is like this. "If Itachi didn't know of my abilities, that little stunt would have finished me." Here's what I think what happened in detail. Itachi caught Obito off guard by implanting amaterasu in Sasuke, who didn't have MS. This had him caught in its flames. Obito then used izanagi to escape from the flames. Kamui wouldn't work because his body would still be on fire. What Obito meant is that if Itachi knew Obito would use izanagi, he'd implant izanami in Sasuke as well. He would do this since this would drive Sasuke to get his eyes even more.


I do not think Obito was referring to battle prowess. I think he was talking about Itachi's mind games.

Consequences of giving Itachi any intel = your death sentence anyways.

Probably his Kamui abilities would be the most probably hypothesis. I can't think of any other way he would avoid the Amaterasu after getting hit. Izanagi also works.

Doesn't Itachi know about Izanagi though?

he was talking about he didnt know who he really was as in him being obito and not madara and if he did use izanami right there he would have no eyes which isnt true cause he always had the right eye at all times untill he fought konan

On second thought. I'm leaning towards Izanagi. His other eye must have had one of this sharingans implanted and he used it.

Maybe it was the weakness of his kamui, or that he was not Madara, or that he was trying to destroy the current world because kakashi let rin die. there are countless possibilities.

It's simple a misconnection. Itachi did not know about the Kamui and he thought he was Madara all the time. He was simple manipulated all the time without knowing it until the end, same goes to Nagato.

OT: Obito was referring to kamui most likely, If itachi knew that obito could become intangible then he would be dead. Itachi knows of izanagi so obito's statement wouldnt make sense there.

If I recall, he didn't have a physical body to fight with. He might not have access to all of his abilities. Otherwise, he wouldn't waste time possessing Mema.

Izanagi is a forbidden jutsu. Itachi might not have known Obito learned it. Your example of kamui use does make sense.
