What could have made the naruto series better

Anime: filler.... I hate most of the fillers episodes
Manga: to many god damn flashbacks

I think that if that there was less of that stuff, I would have enjoyed it more.

Everybody has their preferences. Honestly, I agree with you that there are too many flashback at times, but they are necessary. If characters don't get developed emotionally you just get cardboard characters who fight a lot. :|

My biggest gripe is that Kishi overuses deus ex machina (google it if you don't understand).

As much as I love Guy, Kishi saving him with Naruto's power up was absolutely dreadful writing.

I think that the fights could be longer. The fights in dbz manga weren't that long, but the anime increased them. So, instead of pointless fillers, they should increase the fights. I would really like that.
Also, better animation.

As for the manga, I agree that some flashbacks are unecessary(madara and hashi throwing rocks, really?), but some are really necessary. Another thing is that kishi should kill some chars. I dont think that is extremely necessary, but some need to die, like gai.
At last, less tnj. I understand it's importance to the plot, but put the chars to constantly talk in the middlw of the fight, that becomes annoying. I think he should balance better the talking and the fighting.

Yes, I totally agree with the necessary flashbacks and character death.

Remove all the op hax jutsu that can only be overcome by plot armour and return to the stratagy oriented battles of part one and the beginning of shippuden. It dosent feel like theeyre ninjas anymore not even in the slightest.

If your refering to the "start of shipuden" part of my comment I can see were you developed your misconception but I waasnt refering to any particular fight.

Just that most shinobi still used versatile and strategic techniques. Shurken and kunai could still be a threat. Not much jutsu spamming.
