[Question] What censor bypassing really is

Anyone who's been on the Base for more than a month should know about censor bypassing by now. The mods have a zero tolerance policy for censor bypassing, and I know this because I have been infracted, warned and wallied countless times because I bypass the censor. Or do I?

Usually, when you insert a word on the censor list, it appears as stars, for example:
"You're a ******."

The Mods also seem to have the idea that typing it like "F**k", or "f&ck" is censor bypassing. No it's not. The word is still censored.

"F**k", "f**got", "b***h" isn't censor bypassing.

"Fuck", "Faggot", and "Bitch" is censor bypassing.

So why do mods consider "F**k" or "b***h" censor bypassing?

Do the really consider it censor bypassing? I constantly censor my words like the Bold^^^ and have never been infracted for it, guess I better chill lol.

I think I was once infracted for telling a girl that I had to spread 'em so I could **** her. But... of course, I meant "+Rep" and nothing else... so now I usually bypass the censor to prevent confusion. Or the admins should remove the word from the list.

Well, it is technically censoring anyway.

Censoring is just concealing and by using the stars, the word is concealed.

Being able to recognize it is just a common thing amongst any type of censorship but this is supposedly a family site, implying that the younger members might not be able to recognize the words. rolleyes

Just don't confuse concealing with being unable to recognize, as I could be as white as an egg and use fake tan to cover it up, doesn't mean that people who know me can't recognize what I'm doing to conceal that fact.

Blue = censor bypassing

Red = likewise censor bypassing. Why? Our censor doesn't censor things like 'uc' or 'ag' or 'itc'. You just censored a few letters yourself in a naive attempt to claim you are not bypassing the censor, while still making it extremely obvious which words they are.

Green = not considered censor bypassing as the NB censor censored it (unless you were bored and just decided for some illogical reason to type lots of '*', in which case you are just screwing yourself), however it still counts as using offensive language, flaming, advertising or something else as pretty much anything the NB censor censors, breaks a rule.

So you think it's ok to do it in this thread? well it's not either. Either way we want those words full censored for a reason, and people that bypass it usually get infracted because they are reported by our own members as it's against the rules and can thereby be reported. To use stars to censor a word partially is not ok either, because then the censorship has no meaning at all as you still put the word in peoples minds either way. And there is parents that does not want their children to learn these kind of words. So naturally we decided that we shouldn't accept it on our site if it offends someone.

+rep is removed from the censorship, however if you post it and get reported, you may loose rep points or get infracted/warned. As this is considered a way to cheat the rep system. However it will be discussed within staff what other changes that will be made to it.
