Don't know if this meets your requirements, but I found The Art of War by Sun Tzu interesting (you can find it on the internet). The script can serve as a metaphor for many things; including tactics that would be valuable in medicine or any other field. =D

I'd recommend any of the books written by Vikas Swarup. (He wrote the book that Slumdog Millionaire was based on) Personally I've felt that all of them are immensely interesting, and definitely worth the read, if you're interested in these types of novels.

I would recommend the "Art of War" by Sun Tzu. 1984, Brave New World, Animal Farm and to a lesser extent Fahrenheit 451, Slaughterhouse-Five and Catcher in the Rye are all books I regularly recommend. For medicinal purposes specifically, an encyclopedia?
