What are your thoughts on having a minimum 5/10 year career where you have a boss/bosses to answer to? Living every day of your 10 years living under someone's word.

Personally I can't stand the idea of it. Would you rather get paid £30,000 being your own boss or £50,000 working under someone... who doesn't treat you badly but he/she does tell you what to do.

I'll choose £30,000 any day.

My boss is alright. He chooses to avoid questions tho and gets annoyed of my team members and I ask him questions about the contracts we have to pick up. Other than that, we're square.

I'm actually looking forward to becoming either a probation officer or Baliff. POs make $40,000-$60,000 year so I might go for it.

I mean in the situation you described, making almost double under a boss that treats you well, you'd have to be a fool not to take that. Not unless the lower paying job is your dream job or something, but if it's simply a matter of not taking the higher paying job on the mere premise of having to work for someone other than yourself then that's just stupid. There are some people who work better when left to their own device, but to reach that level of efficiency completely on your own takes intense dedication, skill, time management, and a respect for yourself that 99% of people think they have but dont. Simple fact is that, even though there are countless examples of people abusing their power as someones boss, the chain of command in any job is just about crucial to making sure what needs to get done gets done.

I never had experience, but I think it would be like school? Doesn't matter tbh unless the person is a jerk and criticises a person's Character instead of something wrong they did in work.

I bet my ass aswell as my left nut that you would choose the 50k once you realize that 30k is just 2.5k a month.

If the person is respectable and can get things done better than me then probably i won't mind been under him/her but if it's other way around i won't be able do it and won't rest till i overthrow his authority or leave it all together .

I have had bosses. I have been a boss. I am a boss with a boss. Responsibility falls to the supervisor. Being your own boss means there is no one to fall back on (outside of extraneous advice from others). In my profession a mistake can result in litigation, or having billing pulled. Having your own practice (whether it be finance, accounting, medical, etc.) means you are responsible for managing all aspects of the business including licensure, taxes, salaries, benefits, property zoning, overhead expenses, and everything else down to office supplies. You have to learn that somewhere. Any job requires a good supervisor to teach. A bad supervisor can lead to a miserable work environment.

I'm actually a great guy. I have great analytical skills and emotional intelligence as well as high level of empathy so I generally understand everything people tell me on how they feel. With this knowledge, I'm capable of really making people comfortable and feel at home because I can see what kind of push and pull they need to be happy. I think overall a happy workforce environment will be more productive than a sad/angry one.

If I was a boss I would genuinely go out of my way to make sure that the environment and the social aspect, as well as productiveness, was top quality. Rarely do companies sit down and ask themselves, how can we make this a better place for everyone? I'm often a guy that can see through snakes, weasels and manipulators so I would try my best to create a team without any of them. No backstabbing, no cutthroat or no whining about each other.

Sounds like you have some variant of an inferiority complex. 50k any day - and I'll tap her (or his wife's) ass.

No, definitely not. I just think that If you're going to be given this amazing opportunity called "life" especially to exist in a first world country and one of the most admirable cities on the planet- London like me, then you should rule it. The reason why these bosses are bosses is because they decided they didn't want to be told what to do. Why do I have to be under someone else? Why can't they be under me?

How much of an ego do you have that being given instructions for 20 000 more at that level of a salary, bothers you? I'd understand if were talking 100 000 vs a million, tbh. But you can't do jack shit with 30k.
