What are the best type of laptops out there?

I'm going off to college soon so I want to purchase a new laptop now. Sadly I don't have a good idea of what to get so can anyone help me out?

Kind of depends upon what you need it for. I've had decent luck with HPs - but they are a little wonky to work with as a technician.

Tablet PCs can be a better trade off between portability, functionality, etc (particularly when backed with a full USB keyboard) - but that, again, will depend upon your preference.

Lenovo is also supposed to be fairly decent.

Dell owns alienware and now it is a multimedia laptop

Buy ASUS it is the leader in gaming PC's and its lap top designs are top notch. The things don't die because you blocked a fan since the intake is the entire case. Not the cheapest things though.
