In the most recent chapter madara has finally cast his infinite tsukuyomi.
You must be registered for see images

But more importantly this chapter revealed how the infinite tsukuyomi works.

The above link suggests than anyone whom the light of the moon shines on is immediately affected by the genjutsu. Those that are protected from the light like team 7 are not affected.

But one question must be asked? What about the other half of the planet which the light from the moon does not shine on? Both madara and obito said they wanted to cast it on the world. How is it suppose work when half of the world is not affected at any given time?

Could it be that all of the characters in the series live in only one half of the world?

could it be that the other half of their world is covered by a huge ocean?

Or could it be that the other half of their world is unexplored by the characters in the series, perhaps Kaguya came from there.

Thoughts?

What makes you think there are continents on the other side?

Besides Madara already said that it can reach anywhere, so there is your answer.
I didn't say their were definitely continents on the other side, Madara said one can't escape it's light because by the time one decides to escape the light has already come into contact with them. Madara never stated that the light reaches all for corners of the globe.

Well the moon was created by the Sage, these are powers beyond our understanding. I believe the "light" shine everywhere and is not limited by our own knowledge of physics.

It can probably shine through the earth.

And everyone in the NV probably lives on one side of the earth.
You're also forgetting the fact that everyone caught in the Genjutsu shall be bound by the God Tree, so there would be no escaping.
So, even if the light doesn't reach the other end of the world, it will be there within 12 hours, and then they will also be bound by the God Tree.
