Vampires. A vampire is the ultimate undead hunter. The older one is, the more powerful they are (or at least in the lore I care about, like Interview with the Vampire. Actually, I think The Vampire Lestat may have been better). Johnny Depp's role in the remake of Dark Shadows as Barnabas Collins really revived vampirism as a whole.
Vampires are charming, yet evil. They can be extremely persuasive and never have to lift a finger for their prey, or they can brutal, using their excessive strength and speed to crush the life of their victims. In some lore, they also have magical type properties which allow them even more options for combat. Their main weaknesses are the need to feed and sunlight. However, Barnabas had a great solution for the sun thing, and feeding could never be easier as a powerful vampire. In Anne Rice's books, Vampires weren't affected by things like crosses and stuff, so that isn't a problem. I combine the best parts of all the lore there is and smash it together...that's my vampire. Evil, extremely powerful, and very cunning while also being charming. A vampire's presence is enough to affect an entire room of people, almost making them slaves to its will.
Werewolves don't have anything going for them on any of those levels. While they're great hunters themselves, having guile, strength and speed, a werewolf is always limited to the cycle of the moon. I've seen some lore that allowed them to change at will, or whenever the light of the moon hits them period, but they actually have to go through a transformation, whereas a vampire is always a vampire.
