Were Hidan and Kakuzu strong enough to take the leaf head in attempt to capture Naruto? What would've been there chances of success if they directly attacked in a similar fashion to Peins assult?

For this to happen, they would have needed to either go straight to the village or kill Team 10 and Kakashi, right?

If it's scenario 1, Shikamaru would have been there to give intel and between him and his father, they would have figured out a way to stop the two. If it's scenario 2, then I say yes.

With no prior intel, they would have run through the Hidden Leaf unless Danzo stepped in and helped Tsunade.
