A. From everything that I have read and know about marijuana, and from the individuals I have worked with who have used it, it seems as though it has the potential to do real psychological harm, not just physical harm (smoking can lead to lung cancer). In the remainder of my answer, I wish to focus on the psychological harms of marijuana use.

MANY PEOPLE THINK THAT IT'S OK BU I'M HERE TO SAY ITS NOT,THIS IS IN RESPONSE OF THAT WEED THREAD FROM 2 WEEKS
AGO

Surrounding marijuana, a common myth exists. It is frequently thought that marijuana is “not that bad” and it is not as “hardcore” as other drugs therefore it is safer. The fact is that marijuana is classified as a hallucinogenic drug. Hallucinogenic drugs (acid is also a hallucinogenic drug, among others), or drugs of any kind for that matter, have not been ruled out as a cause of psychiatric and severe mental disorders. A recent Associated Press story out of England reports that cannabis has been linked with schizophrenia and cannabis-related psychiatric problems and hospitalizations have increased 85 percent from 1996 to 2006. I have worked with people who have used marijuana, and other related hallucinogenic drugs, too believing that it was an innocent drug, and they have permanently damaged themselves psychologically—meaning they never “came back” to themselves. The drugs actually seemed to cause a psychotic episode from which they have never recovered.

Another problem with using illegal drugs, aside from being illegal, (something you noted in your e-mail) is that when you buy marijuana, you can never be certain where the drugs came from. Who grew it? What did they add to the drugs? What chemicals were sprayed on the drugs and where those chemicals safe for human consumption or were they toxic and have the potential to cause physical harm? Was the marijuana laced or sprinkled with some other drug? You could buy a bad bag of weed and smoke drugs that you never intended to smoke.
There is a long list of other negative consequences of marijuana use that are not mentioned here. The bottom line is that using drugs is always a sign of a psychologically unhealthy individual. You may tell yourself that the drug is harmless but as I have pointed out, the truth is that it is a dangerous drug to use. It is like playing with fire. Maybe you’ll be lucky enough not to get “burned” but is that a chance you really want to take? I hope that you will re-evaluate your use of marijuana and find an activity that is a better use of your time and brain cells. Lastly, I also wanted to thank you for writing so that I had a chance to inform you and others about the under reported dangers of marijuana use.

Marijuana increases heart rate by about 50%. Frequent use can lead to the possibility of damage to the heart such as heart murmurs, heart attack, and stroke. People with high blood pressure or other heart problems are obviously at higher risk than a healthy person.

Marijuana also causes irritation to the lungs. The fact that inhaled marijuana smoke is held in the lungs for as long as possible makes it even more irritating to lungs than tobacco smoke. See the following link to read more about marijuana and the lungs.
Remember the info stated above regarding marijuana not being water soluble? Well, marijuana is stored in body fat. The most potent areas of body fat that it is stored in are in the brain and reproductive organs (ovaries and testicles). Because of this, marijuana also has an effect on hormone levels. This can lead to problems with reproduction for both men and woman ( ). There is also speculation that use of marijuana during adolescence is more dangerous than use in adulthood due to the hormonal changes that are naturally occ
uring during this time. In December 2010, there was research published indicating that marijuana is linked to testicular cancer in men. See the following link to read more.
One widely recognized effect of marijuana is "the munchies." This occurs due to the cannabinoids in the brain's hypothalumus triggering a false hunger response. People who smoke marijuana tend to eat junk food when they have the munchies, and are therefore, at risk for health problems related to unhealthy eating habits such as obesity and high cholesterol.

Overall, there is a lot of speculation about the possible effects of marijuana on the body. There is more to learn about this topic. The person choosing to use the drug needs to be informed of the possible effects of use and then make a decision about the risk he or she is willing to take.

I don't get why you put marijuana on the same level as acid. Yes it may be a hallucinogenic drug, but you can't really compare the 2. It's like saying that a cruiser is as bad for you a a bottle of absinthe, they're really not on the same level..

Another thing that you have failed to mention is that marijuana also has some major health benefits. It is given to cancer patients to help with their appetite and their pain, it helps people who suffer from depression, it helps people who are suffering from ADHD/ADD. The list goes on. And to be honest, I am all for the legalization of medical marijuana.

Marijuana may cause lung cancer but in the end more people die from cigarettes and alcohol a year then marijuana. (Not me bagging on the 2 because I do drink and have the occasional have a smoke, but just a good fact.)

Sorry if these points have already been raised but I didn't have time to scroll through 7 or so pages.

You guys do realize Marijuana is called 420 due to that fact that its made up 420 different chemicals, or more specifically, poisons.

That being said, lets say you have 2 smokers.
Smoker A - :)
Smoker B - xd

If Smoker A, smokes cigarerrtes, then is intake from one puff from it is a small amount of smoke, because if Smoker A inhales too much, he starts choking and blows it out.

However, if Smoker B, who smokes a joint, ( a potheads fav. :D) then Smoker B inhales the ENTIRE hit, which is easier to inhale since it does not contain, tar, nicotine, etc.. but however, since the intake of smoke is much greater, it if by far worse to smoke, since it is nothing but smoke and toxins.

Whichever way you look at his topic, both are bad and we know it, we are just too busy to realize the truth of smoking, our human bodies were not designed to inhale smoke, EVER. But just like anything else, sure do it, its your choice, but if you do it too much, however you look at it, its still abuse if its misused, and if you love smoking Marijuana, then by all means do it, but dont smoke... VAPORIZE my friends.

P.S... This is my First day on NarutoBase.. and let me say, you people, fellow NarutoBase viewers and the threads you post are awesome!

name all 420 chemicals, you are lying i have never heard of that in my life stop making stuff up to prove your point, are you smoking something other then weed my friend that might be the problem with the way you think now, i just don't agree with what you had to say like 100000 x disagree with you

Some of weeds major negative health effects is that it can act as a hormone in the brain constantly firing the receptors in your brain and eventually making them useless, so smoking pot actually does make you not as smart, also from smoking it a lot of your organs will turn black. I have nothing against pot, i personally think it should be legalized too, government would get out of recession just on the tax they make off pot, I won't do it just from the health risk it presents.

oh how i love reading arguments on nb :)

You and me both, bro. ;) I think the issue here is that there's an extreme lack of education. Just because someone has a PhD in some field doesn't mean they know anything, trust me on that.

I think if people decided to find out some stuff for themselves instead of just reading about it, they might actually form their own opinion about something. That is, instead of simply having it fed to them. Would you agree? xd

honestly if you do actual research about weed you'll find most of the "negative facts" about it derive from the "reefer madness" propaganda from 1930's, its a bunch of horse crap and was only used to stop hemp (its awesome no smokable cousin) from over taking the cotton and plastic industry, so they blamed weed and started a huge campaign against it thus creating huge stereotyping of its users and effects. It does do harm when smoked as does any inhalation of anything apart from oxygen. Do some solid lurking, you wont find many studies from the U.S.A tho as they have banned all studies now. please think before you speak

Most of this is used as opinionated argument, but the "more irritating than tobacco smoke" is rather stupid. Irritating maybe, but less harmful? Also true. Mary Jane's tar breaks up in the lungs, whereas tobacco smoke does not. The rest of it I only skimmed over, but I'm not sure why you're making this thread.
