I just posted on someones thread what I think will be the end of Naruto, or rather what I want to be the end of Naruto I copy it here to explain my thoughts.
For me, although this is probably not gonna happen, this is how i would like it to. Sasuke becomes Hokage and Naruto doesn't. Naruto instead becomes a wandering sage who just kinda helps spread his ideals and enforces the peace through talking of course but if worse comes to worse I guess fighting but never killing his opponent. Then after several years/decades the leaf village has done something to break the balance (something small that somehow gets escalated into a near war) and ultimately Sasuke opts to take the responsibility to protect his village even though it was a lone ninja or whatever. because the other nations want the leaf punished Naruto must fight Sasuke to keep the peace and ultimately they both die. But the village who was wronged realizes that the fighting didn't really need to happen for something that should have just been forgiven and the leaf ninja who wronged someone asks for forgiveness and he is. ultimately now that the shinobi alliance had been tested it remains standing and the village system is abolished in favor of a fully unified system that uses a central village with the old villages being more like out posts. The central village would be fittingly located where naruto and sauke fought and woulf have a memorial for the two heroes who fought and died for peace.
To me it would sum things up nicely. Naruto can't pick a side because he stands for peace and unity and therefore can't be allied with a single country. Sasuke would be able to make amends and it would represent a change in personality from destroying to protecting. We would get to see all the main characters all grown up with their ninja students and we would see the final fight between Naruto and Sasuke. But the fight would actually stand for peace and not violence/hatred but a love for peace so great that they would sacrifice themselves for it. If written well the symbolism would be clear and would then solve the problem of the wars/hatred because the symbolism should clear in the minds of all the villages especially after seeing the heroes of the 4th war dying for a dumb reason but it actually meaning much more.
