Well, I have to admit this was my feeling at first too, but then (no I din't take any arrow to the knee ) I thought about the signs Kishimoto had left here and there for this turnaround.
Signs like the absurd way the Uchihas awaken stronger abilities and Obito's quote that someone mentioned above "When one learn to love, he must bear the risk of hatred".
Turnarounds like that show good writing in my opinion.
