No I wouldn't care, I don't like models period. The fact is she is 5'5 and 280 pounds which is horrible and people are looking up to this. You can be fat/obese and be proud of who you are and know that you need to put your health in mind. If it requires you to go down to a Healthy Weight do it (notice how I said healthy not skinny and not "you need to be skinny because skinny does not equal healthy all the time"). Don't stay on an unhealthy weight then glorify it, that's absurd.

Those very magazine you are referring to are the reason why fat people are picked on. America likes to shame them publicly, in the media, and in society in general.

Think about it. All of us have grown up watching and reading that beauty is slim fat is unattractive. Much like dark skin used to be looked upon as unappealing or unattractive and largely skin pigmentation is still a huge factor in what is beautiful and what is not though we have come a long way for that.

Now if we grew up and the media and society showed us big women like this model all the time in magazines and on tv. Then you better believe we would think overweight was sexy and skinny was ugly.

You say it wouldn't change the fact that we wouldn't see them as beautiful but you're wrong. If we started posting up big girls all the time and put them in a positive light, you'd find that the youth growing up with that would find thin people unattractive and heavier people sexy.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder......or in this case, what the media and society tells you is beautiful.

I don't see how those movements are related at all. Being fat is unhealthy, its simply fact. It isn't really a social issue and shouldn't be viewed as one. Living a healthy lifestyle is something everyone should be doing..

Drinking to much is unhealthy (simply fact)
Drugs are unhealthy (simply fact)
unsafe *** can be unhealthy (STDs anyone? Simply fact)
not eating enough is unhealthy (simply fact)
smoking is unhealthy (simply fact)

yet we signal out the fat over these so much more. While *** and drugs are glorified in the media. See the problem here?

As to the post you are responding to: It is exactly the same. One group of people being signaled out and looked down upon from society for what they are. Fat. You consider it not a big deal because we are all taught from childhood this is unhealthy (which it can be but not always) and should be frowned upon.

But there are are plenty of unhealthy things that most americans do that can kill them just as fast as an unhealthy weight. Maybe even faster.

Yeah because thousands of anorexic models who make up the biggest percentage of models and eat a carrot and puke it out as daily menu are healthy.

Btw being fat is not automaticly unhealthy (neither is being thin). People see smoking and drinking people in many movies & magazines, people see girls who barely eat, ads of steroids, movies which promote driving at dangerously high speeds but a fat model challenges people's taught sense of beauty so it is just baad promotion of unhealthiness as if it never happenned.

Don't see whats wrong with putting attention to obesity either, it has increasingly become a major issue throughout the years. Also, I don't think obese people should be viewed as a single "group", anyone of us can become obese through our lifestyle and external factors. We can also reverse it by making healthier choices.

To be fair America was a pretty bad place to live for a long time of you where not white (not even trying to bring up race but look at the facts America was not a fair country for everyone until recently particularly people of any other race than white). Think of it like this from the time America was created to the present year over 90% of that time America was not an equal rights country. Less that's 100 years ago descrimination was widely excepted. Even still I find it funny when people act like America is the such a bad country when every other country has its fair share of problems. Who could ever forget the holocaust that is something I personally believe is worse than anything that ever happend in america or any other country.
