they do make you. Ignorance is bliss I guess

She used language that they don't think is appropriate for their campus and her position? Wow, it's almost like what you say carry consequences and when you work somewhere, you accept responsibility for the things you say and you accept their terms and conditions. It's no different than someone saying "Please don't swear in my house, or you'll have to leave." Firing them might be a bit too far, but punishing them isn't out of the question.

But you were just trying to make the argument that there are no consequences for using "synonyms". Make your mind up.

No
North Korea is closer to 1984
USA would be closer to Brave New World

But I would always remember " Ignorance is strength, Freedom is slavery and War is peace."

:Sdo: :sdo: :sdo: :sdo:
This...would actually be the most accurate statement.

Do note that its because some of you wingnuts lack tact and civility.

That being said, its also true that some spheres are infected with dangerous amounts of political correctness and ideological bias.

Uhm, no, that is not what I said. You're implying that using synonyms will remove the significance and meaning of what is said. I'm saying that is not the case if one knows the meaning of the synonyms and euphemisms. If somebody knows "blind" and "visually impaired" mean the same thing, then it doesn't matter which one is used.

Profanity and inappropriate language are an entirely different story. If somebody says "if you want to be here or a part of this, you can't say this," then you have the choice of agreeing to their terms and conditions in order to be there, or go elsewhere that won't ask that of you.

I wish it was that straight forward. Here is how Ill illustrate to you that it is a form of controlling certain people

This man was fired

This woman was not.

My entire point for this is to suggest that this control of words is harmful and can be used to silence certain groups

^^anorien16 they already are controlling your speech I may as well hold you to that until an agreement for change is reached

They work at different universities. One was not accepting of their language, the other was. The same way one person might be okay with profanity in their house and won't ask you to leave, and another in their house are the opposite. If they worked at the same university, you'd have a point

I have a point anyway but again you are blinded by all encompassing liberal bullshittery. It's astounding really.

Lets make that Boston Professor a white man, and replace white males with black males in those tweets. If you seriously think he would still be employed then you are an ignoramus. You know this is true but can't bring yourself to admit that i'm correct and language is controlled to silence certain opinions and groups.

... I love how -American- capitalists use books of George Orwell and his name to promote a sole anti-left propoganda as if such thing was throughly perpetuated by him. His poltical stance can not be said 100% but he was all around crictical person, not in support of capitalism or imperialism and more of left wing.
A common view held by the political right-wing is that Orwell exposed the horrors of "socialism" by predicting what would happen under a regime of the Stalinist model which the right-wing claims to be representative of all socialist ideals, conveniently ignoring the fact that he was writing about state capitalism represented as socialism and that the book was intended to be satire and not prediction. Also conveniently ignored are his other writings depicting the evils of imperialism, the inherent unfairness of privilege and the inefficiency and self-interest of capitalism.

The horrors of socialism he indicated in his books like 1984 or Animal Farm are not in the way American capitals fear like "mah gerd lower class take corporations' money while not working", it was about people in charge exploiting labour for their own advances while taking from working class and eventually become akin to people's former oppressors. Even Animal Farm ends up exactly like this. The Road to Wigan Pier is about working class miners' struggles.

Now this may seem irrelevant from topic but this is a simple and basic intro for giving a clue why Orwell is not your type of guy OP.

Newspeak according to 1984 is a reduced way of English which uses less words, disregards other languages and thus simplifies thought range of people. As the old saying states "we think with language". For example instead of saying "weather is good" and "weather is bad" one should say "weather is good" and "weather is not good". So i do not know what sort of relevance it has with political correctness which in fact conventionally increases the ways of expression thus confuses some. And it is funny when someone who probably can not speak a language more than one is slandering this concept like some linguist authority.

About Carlin he displayed what some would call "political correctness" in his one of his speeches:

His examples in video at OP is about choosen words getting used as manipulating coverages to make things look OK as if things are actually OK while in fact keeping problems. He even said "we should call homeless people houseless people because what they lack is house and home is an abstract concept" which can be considered "unnecessarily PC" by some.

Radicals of either side force a totalitarian state.
