Water, also know as Suiton, is a very versatile element. Most elements are used effectively in one way, such as offense or defense. Fire style is used primarily to attack the opponent, and so is lightning and wind. Earth style is used primarily to defend the user or his/her allies. Water, as I stated, is used effectively as a way to attack and defend, not specializing in one over the other (usually). A powerful offensive water jutsu is Water Release: Water Dragon Bullet Technique. A large water dragon is used to ram the enemy, and depending how familiar you are with water style, you may or may not need a water source. A defensive water style jutsu is Water Release: Water Formation Wall. This is used to create a large wall of water around the user, which rises as it goes outwards, with a fast flowing current to prevent opponents to get to the user. Another type of jutsu is supplementary, which isn't offensive or defensive. You just used one on me now, Water Style: Water Prison Jutsu. This restricts the movements of the enemy by trapping them in an orb of water.
Water style is weak to earth style, because it can stop the momentum of water.
Water style is strong against fire style, because water extinguishes fire, very simply put.
Madara Uchiha once used a very wide range fire style jutsu (I can't remember the name) against the shinobi force, but it was stopped by several ninja using water style jutsu. (This being said fire style can overcome water style, and water style can also overcome earth style.)
Water style can also be used to evade other jutsu by using momentum to move you around (like push you up quickly).
Water style can be used to create weapons too, as it can be used to create a water sword
**Can this water sword be used to go over my kurikara? And do I need kenjutsu training to use this jutsu?**
Again, water is most likely the most versatile element.
