Tobi didn't fear him, but he was a threat to Akatsuki and his plans. His numbers were already considerably weakened, which is why he 'teamed up' with Sasuke and waited for Itachi's death to start acting.

Tobi wasn't even afraid of Itachi, Nagato and the rest of Akatsuki as Edo Tenseis.

tobi has nothing to be afraid of except itachi spilling the beans on akatsukis plans. thats the only reason tobi agreed to not strike at konoha, because itachi had to bargain with him. if tobi wanted, he could have killed itachi then and there and proceed with trying to start a war again. but he agreed because itachi had a good deal (help me kill uchihas, and you promise not to attack my village). which tobi ignored because hidan and kakuzu and sasori and deidara had orders to go get nine tails and naruto's a konoha gennin so technically tobi is attacking konoha.

If I was a Fanboy of anyone it would be Naruto & Minito although they both can be beaten. I know it dosn't state anywhere that Itachi knew Tobi's techs but when you really think about it, it makes a lot of sense.

If Konan figured out Tobi's techs why is it so farfetched to think that Itachi woundn't have? He was around Tobi for a while and it even seemed like Tobi trained him a bit. In that time Itachi being the genius that he was, could have figured out how counter Tobi s/t. Really there is no true proof but I still think it makes a lot of sense. Also keep in mind Minito figured out the tech within a few minutes, again Itachi was around him for years.

Tobi was wary of Itachi, he clearly had a lot of respect for him. Itachi also, I don't think he was confident enough to attack tobi, which is why he implanted amaterasu in sasuke.

but to the people who say that minato figured out tobi's tech and escaped it so itachi can to, might i remind you that minato would be in tobi's dimension right now were it not for ftg. once tobi touches you you'd better have a strong technique going off in that millisecond or you're gone. he's very quick at becoming intangible again, as shown vs konan. and one hit isn't going to be enough to dispatch him.
