It looked like Orochimaru was about to summon Minato but Hiruzen clearly stopped him. Orochimaru should not be able to even attempt summoning Minato since his soul in the reaper.

You're mistaken here buddy , hiruzen is not the one who stopped it , the coffin stopped by itself cause its not possible to summon minato

The only "legitimate" plothole in Part I I've heard of is how almost no one (especially the children) recognized the physical similarities with Naruto and Minato (albeit, this detail carried over to Part II).

Though one could conclude that the Third Hokage's ultimatum after the Nine-tails attack helped diminish that suspicion over time.

Hiruzen only thought he stopped it:

Minato being sealed in Shiki Fuujin is what stopped it, though. Thus Orochimaru not thinking something like "Damn, Hiruzen stopped the 3rd one" instead of "The third one didn't work".
