Was Minato originally meant to be the Greatest Shinobi of all time?

During that battle, the two Hokage were not at their true power level and being that the third was so old, he had to resort to such a tactic, just to put a dent in Orochimaru, not actually kill him.

yeah, i think at the beginning of the manga, minato was suppose to be the greatest or would have been the greatest if he didn't die.

Yeah, in the beginning, he was seen as being almost godlike, akin to the legends of Hagoromo. However, later in the series, the legends didn't hold up, but that's totally on Kishi. If he had lived longer, then maybe he would'vebeen the greatest. He probably would've outclassed Naruto on the rasengan (base, no Kurama) and would've increased his speed. Plus, Minato was all around very tactical llevelheaded and just plain smart, which at the end of the day, means more regarding battle. Although, Kishi isn't doing too well of a job showingthat these days.

Oh, most definitely. He's far too fast and levelheaded. Orochimaru would've lost his cool and made a mistake. Plus, if he can hold up so well against Kurama, then none of Orochimaru's summons would bother him.

Idk, there has been far too many contradictions in the series. So, I'm only calling it based on fights and what people have said about him (in comparison to what others say about other shinobi). He quite possibly could contend the greatest shinobi of all time if it wasn't for Kaguya, Hagaromo, Hagaromo's sons, Sage Madara, and maybe even naruto and sasuke.

Guys, these statements were OPINIONATED... not facts.

Someone in the manga/ anime saying "Naruto is more cuter in sage mode form than Jiraiya" is an opinion, but if someone said

"Naruto surprassed Jiraiya in his sage mode form" would be a fact because it can be proven.


When the characters said "The 3rd Hokage is the strongest of them all.", it was most likely opinionated. Then again, it can just be that Kishimoto didn't have any developed characteristics for the other great shinobi..

Yea, then kishi made a 180 turn and changed his story midway. Until edo revival, the manga basically hyped and implied Minato > Hiruzen(prime) > hashirama > tobirama
