Was Karin made an Uzumaki for character development or will she come into play later?

I've always wondered if there was a reason why Kishi made Karin an Uzumaki. Do you think it was for the sake of character development Or will she come into play later on?

It was because she could be used to heal Sasuke. And Oro probably wanted to experiment with Uzumaki cells.

Seems Orochimaru was very focused on making him self physically and spiritually unable to die lol
