Was Kakuzu weaker during the War?

Kakuzu seemed a lot weaker especially since his hearts didnt do as much damage as when he was alive

is it because he took the hearts of fodder ninja?

Kakuzu said he collected hearts of strong ninja when he was alive (almost got Kakashi)

I don't think that the heart effect his strength, I mean they just lengthen his live, and makes variation in his affinities, I think his weak state was due to becoming secondary character + Bashosen is an OP ninja tool

kakazu used his hearts for an up close attacks. when he fought kakashi and shikamaru, he used long range attacks. (and that was only 1 heart that we saw)

Kakazu was fighting against many ninja. Everybody got stronger and there are very few people in all of the allied shinobi forces who could solo kakazu. Even darui would have gotten killed had he had to fight him alone.

No he just became secondary ninja, he was already dead and we all saw what he could do, why making him overrated once more, their was nothing new that he bring to the table

Because of plot, he was shown weaker than he really is, but the worse case is not even him(look what happened to Sasori or Deidara), but still, Butterfly mode Choji, Darui, Kotetsu, Isumo, Tenten(with Rikudoo weapons), all of them were needed to completely beat him, so it wasn't that easy

He was fighting against an army. His hearts/masks were all spread out fighting in different parts of the battlefield while he was trying to solo Darui/Kotetsu/Izumo/Choji. I don't think he was weakened, so much as hopelessly outnumbered.

As for Sasori/Deidara, that was a little bit of plot no jutsu and also because Kankuro's team's ambush was already prepared. I also think Deidara didn't take his opponents nearly seriously enough as he could have solo'd them all with C4 since he could regenerate anyway. But he wanted to **** with Sai by killing Shin over and over and that gave Kankuro/Omoi enough time to sneak up on them. Plus Sasori had no puppets except for the Shinobi he just killed.
