well they said he was ordered by his village to assisinate the first hokage(hashirama).
He failed his mission.
Due to his failure he was basically exiled
He got pissed at leaders for that dishonorable treatment after risking life and limb from them, and basically gave them a big fat **** you by killing them all.

I don't know about wanting to be first hokage, he'd have to fight tobirama and madara for that :s

Kakuzu was an elite Shinobi from Takigakure (Waterfall Village just like the 7-Tails Jinjuriki Fuu). As one of if not their best shinobi, Kakuzu was charged with the assassination of Hashirama Senju. However, due to the power and might of Hashirama Senju, Kakuzu failed in his mission.

Upon returning home having given his best effort, instead of praise for his bravery he was chastised and punished. Becoming imprisoned and likely beaten, Kakuzu came to lose faith in his village, and most likely in humanity. In rage, Kakuzu escaped from prison, and obtained knowledge of how to use the Earth Grudge Fear Technique (which also means he fought Hashirama without the style he used today). With the power of Earth Grudge Fear he removed the hearts of Takigakure's elders and fled into a life of bounty hunting where he would come to only trust the power and greed that money would offer... For in his eyes money was truth.


So yeah. He's from Takigakure and was sent to kill a Hokage.
