Was Jiraya even that useful?

I love Jiraya and all but besides teaching Naruto the rasengan, was he actively useful in teaching naruto anything during the time skip. Apparently, Naruto increased his tactics against genjutsu but barely. To me the first few episodes of Naruto Part 2, we basically saw the same naruto as in part one.

Naruto's true improvement came with the wind style rasengan and later on sage mode, before this he was basically the same naruto from part one.

True in the time skip he didn't learn much but jiraya was like his father naruto won't be the same without him plus naruto after the time skip become smarter and better at genjutsu

I agree, and that is one of the things I don't like about the beginning of part 2. Naruto was basically the same from part 1 but with more rasengan variations, I guess I was expecting too much since jiraiya was a sannin.
