Was Jiraiya's obsession over Orochimaru led to his downfall?

Jiraiya has been stalking and gathering information on Orochimaru which led to the Akatsuki. As all the events passed which led to his death he stated that he failed compared to the gifted Hokage.

He could not win Tsunade's heart. He could not saved his student and his master. Could not save his best friend.

His obsession and his "not giving up" led him in ruin. Depression. Not only that he sought to make Naruto not repeat the same mistakes as him seeing Sasuke went the same roadway as Orochimaru.

No he never had a downfall. He entrusted Naruto with his goals and ideals and Naruto is pulling through with them, so he never 'fell' or 'failed'. He won in the long run
