Kisame didn't know who jiraya was, just that he's one of the three legendary sannin...Fearing a reputation, Itachi used his ignorance and made him seem like an opponent that couldn't be defeated even with backup.... he probably doesn't know that itachi fodderized a sannin as a kid from the statement he made
