thinking back on Hanzō was he a ninja or a samurai?

now I know he used ninja techs such as summoning and Justsu's but why would such things be limited to ninja's? (they may teach them doesn't mean that there wouldn't be ways around it)

he had a strong code of honour which you shouldn't really have as a ninja (letting a foe live if there will was strong enough for example)

the other reason why he seems to be more of a samurai is his final act (seppuku) which in japanese tradition was reserved for the samurai only

the only reason why I think he is an ninja is because the age of true samurai was over in his eyes

what do you think?

it just seemed he had a more bushido (the way of the warrior) mentality but fought like a ninja

If you read what Hanzo said closely, he mentioned how Samurai were becoming less and less common; this implies that the Samurai were still around in large amounts, so it's very viable that the culture at the time was heavily influenced by the Samurai culture.

With this in mind, a ninja is a practitioner of ninjutsu, which Hanzo is.

He was a ninja plain and simple. He was different because he believed in honor, loyalty, and other noble traits that many later began to discard. That is why he became strong, to defend his beliefs and one day pass it on to the new generation.
