They were not incorrect I still go by them. I truly feel Gaara was wasted. The guy was put on the shelf most of part 2. I wanted more of Gaara. You fanboys will never understand this.
I just actually read the OP as i only responded based on the title. But it doesn't look like you understand what you want? Aren't you basically saying you wanted Gaara to have been involved in more fights? If yes, i agree with you. But character wise, he was done. His story/backstory was complete. We even got a sequel about his backstory in the war arc with his dad (which was awesome).

If i'm to get it right, does this: "His tailed beast was taken away from him which made any potential he had as a charactered wasted. Kishi basically put his character on the sidelines doing paperwork for ages." mean you wanted Gaara to still be a homicidal maniac just with more utilization of his tailed beast?

Thats my problem when part 2 started he was finished as a character since he had achieved his goal of becoming Kazekage. My problem is that we never truly got to see him develop into a Kazekage on screen. He went from a homicidal maniac to a respected Kazekage too quickly in my book. Not just that he lost his tailed beast which gave him potiential of achieving greater heights of power. I wanted to see him get more fights plus character arcs. To make it convincing he truly deserves the seat he has.

lol.. didn't Itachi already explain this. Something along the line of 'those that are respected become worthy of Kage' or something? Anyway becoming Kazekage wasn't Gaara's only wish. He also wanted to be respected and because obviously just becoming Kage still didn't remove fear from some.

And we know Gaara knew this because in death he still clearly felt he hadn't fully garnered anyone's trust [ ][ ].

Yes we didn't see the process of him becoming Kazekage but what his character story became about was completed imo beautifully in the opening chapters of part 2. Did i want more of him battlewise? Yes but i can at least admit his backstory was intriguing and completed in a nice way that's impressive for someone that wasn't Naruto or related to the Uchiha clan. If your main issue is that he becomes Naruto Naruto oriented though, i can't help/say anything about that lol

Thats your opinion. Mine differs in that cause I feel characters like him were far more interesting than to be put aside like that. He could have been a far more memorable character if his character was allowed to be explored more. Problem is part 2 became about Sasuke and Naruto. He was unfortunately a victim of neglection from the writer. And yes his Naruto worship was another problem for me. Thats like Frieza worshiping Goku every panel. Its disturbing because Gaara had already achieved what Naruto had dreamed of. Why would he be thinking of Naruto when he had achieved what he couldn’t till later? Its beyond my understanding.

Yes :) when deidara exploded him he should have stayed a dead!!!
I’d take that over the sheer waste we saw through out part 2. The guy barely did anything aside from writing papers till War started. Where his best speech was expressing love for Naruto.
