Generally speaking, you don't have much to worry about. There's always the possibility that intelligence has misidentified a building, a pilot has done something stupid... or that the government will decide to put radars on top of schools (makes Al Jazeera reporters happy - Americans blowing up schools) - but we've spent most of our R&D money, the last twenty years, in building weapons that blow up one room in a building without killing the guy in the next office.

That said - the real threat is likely to come from things like SAMs and other ordnance shot into the air (at us) that, due to a pesky thing known as gravity, will have to come down (probably in someone's living room).

Then you have the rebels... and who knows what they are going to do through all of this (last we knew, they were buddies with AQI and were co-sponsored by the people who have been paying to have us blown up in other countries.... so go figure).

This won't be a 'war' in the standard context. It's more like target practice for the Navy.

The lesser of the evils is America they can't shoot civilians or indiscriminately massacre you or they will go to jail the others are governed by no such laws ( at least are seemingly oblivious to it). You know what I want? I'm sure my fellow military personnel would agree with this idea as well. How about we invade a cool country like Brazil or Australia where there are beaches and hot chicks everywhere? Rake in that tourism money instead.

Though I'm not sure if that's culturally practical, or not - but it seems like the long-term economic and social stability prospects are getting better by the day (in the sense that they are getting worse for us).

I mean... we -know- these guys have ties with all kinds of terrorist organizations. Several analysts to the area in the past have already determined that -both- 'sides' have been using various chemical weapons against each other for the past two years.

Now, all of a sudden, it's a huge problem we need to go throw ourselves into and help the very people who have been blowing us up the past decade.

And then we have people who think Obama is the best thing since sliced bread.

D.C. invasion isn't as far off as some people think. There was talk of cutting military pay and benefits but I guess their level of retardation hasn't dropped far enough that they forgot the golden rule. Never piss off the dudes with the guns.
Hell there was a major uproar when they took away our TA. Imagine if they got rid of the GI Bill. We would have another Bonus Army situation in our hands.
