What's the point of captains?

Im guessing this is going to be like a war. And the captains act similar to Kages, making plan and tactics for the squads/groups to act on. WInning or losing would fall on teh captain's shoulders and whatever plans he set in motion.

I think the biggest differences between the two teams is what they are perceived on; the old gen are generally thought to just be OPed and decent battlers while the new gen is thought of as moderately powered but skilled battlers.
