You should define what you mean by early. Early can be anywhere up to the midway point so feats and abilities up to a certain point need to be established for team 7 before a case can be made for or against.

A location is important in a desert Gaara would have homefield advantage and even though he's low jonin level he'd be kage level there. Whereas he'd be high Chunin level in say the land of snow/iron due to the environment.

Intent needs to be established as that has an important impact on the mindset of individuals.

War arc Gaara. He can create thunderstorms of sand snd he can levitate far above thier heads. If Sakura manages to punch it it might drain of its power and kill Gaara. But I doubt she would accomplish that with V2 Ay maneuvering speed of his sand.

Sasuke isn't there? Then tough to say. Yamato can put up a fight. He is their main defense. With sai in the air team has a chance but i am favoring gaara for now.

I feel like team Boruto would fair better tbh. They would need team work to win,
Naruto and Sakura are the only ones who work well together, Sakura lacks the speed but has the strength to counter Gaara, and Naruto can serve as a distraction

Sasuke retrieval arc Gaara was able to create a sand Tsunami big enough to engulf a whole forest and create a quicksand too, so I imagine war arc Gaara would do way better. Apparently the previous edo Gokage implied that his chakra is massive reserves and Rasa thought he was Shukaku.
