Gaara can catch Sasori, but Sasori's attack will put Gaara in his defense mode eventually.

From there its 50/50

Sasori has another Kazekage in his collection.

Faster and stronger sand. Plus coded poison = win.

There was another Gaara vs. Sasori thread a while ago. I'll just reiterate what I put in that thread, too.

Gaara wins mid-diff. Defeating Sasori isn't the most complicated thing in the world. It's as easy as clogging his puppet's joints with sand and making them (and him) hard to move, at the very least, and completely disabled at best. Even Sasori himself is susceptible to this weakness, and putting them in a battlefield of sand, 30 meters of sand to work with and manipulate to his whim, gives Gaara an almost insurmountable advantage.

Assuming Gaara, for some reason, allows Sasori enough time and space to use his puppets, they would give him trouble. Iron Sand trumps regular sand, but the Kazekage would definitely need prep time to create enough Iron Sand to contest a ready 30 meters of ammunition for Gaara. Too much prep time.

Hundred Puppet Army is Gaara's toughest challenge, but it's a surmountable one. If Sakura and Chiyo could beat it, I don't doubt that Gaara could, as well.

And then, all that's left is Sasori. While Sasori's a versatile and dangerous fighter, Gaara has no reason to get close enough to him to risk getting stabbed, burned, or poisoned. He's got a whole battlefield to use to his advantage, keep Sasori on the defensive, and eventually overwhelm him.

Any other environment, and Sasori might have a chance. But fighting Gaara on a battlefield of sand is just an all-around bad idea in most cases. There's a reason Sasori let Deidara go in alone to capture Gaara at the start of Shippuden.

Sasori reaction and speed rivals Deidara, who can react to land advantage of attacks 1]. Add the fact that Iron Sand movement and defense counters this from happening, this isn't happening.

Theres no reason Gaara can stop him before. Kazekage prep time is little to no trouble since activating him is like activating summoning (Space/Time) and the sand moves base on Sasori hand movements (whos hand speed is faster then Gaara).

These move-set are irrelevant to Gaara. Only Kazekage Puppet give Sasori the win (via feats strictly)

Land advantage is irrelevant since it still wont overpower IS, as IS will do to Gaara, since its faster and stronger. @Bold Proof of implication?
