This is just a theory, even I think it's pretty dumb but i'm just putting it out there so I won't care if anyone bashes me, but what if The sage of six paths elder son was his actual successor? And the younger son held a grudge on him instead of it being the other way around? It's sort of like sasuke and Itachi as kids. Sasuke loved Itachi but he did hold a grudge against him because Itachi was the one who got all of their fathers attention. I'm just brain storming here, cause I think within the next few chapters we might learn more of the SO6P, and his sons :/

Well yeah, but the process of losing that love results in them awakening their Sharingan, becoming avengers and seeking power to avenge the love they lost, so everyone was wrong but also right at the same time. Damn Kishimoto..

Sasuke didn't hold a grudge it was more like disappointment since everything he did was overshadowed by his brother and he didn't really have his father's love. But no it was clearly stated that the So6P had 2 successors. Why would the younger be jealous of the older when he was named the successor. Unless he coveted the elder brother's power, but that's a long shot though.

Yea I think that's because with each new generation coming in they were fed new lies, or something like that they were told to believe that the Senju's were the actual successor's of the SO6P instead of the Uchiha's thus causing the Uchiha's to be on their current path.

Sasuke held a little grudge against him, Kishi stated it in the manga, and it was said in the anime it was nothing big though. And I believe that maybe the younger brother believed in power, while the older one believed in love? Cause Uchiha's gain their true powers from love so it wouldn't make sense for them to reject that feeling. And we've seen pictures of the two sons and as you can see here

Well wouldnt that make it to where the Eldest brother grieving for his fathers love then since he had awoken his Rinneganesk eyes.
