While I understand how some might still think that Kakashi back then was weaker than Kakuzu, are there any people left who think so about current Kakashi? That would be weird.

Definitely, Kamui seem to be getting upgrade like every chapter -.-. People are now saying he solo's everyone with it now. Kakashi always pull Kamui as a last resort. I still think Kakuzu can still pull it in one on one because of the monsters bombarding everything and eventually he pins him down to pull out his heart. If Kakashi is out of character he will basically solo everyone on the NV

The sad sad thing is that kakashi could just one shot in all his fights, some would succeed and some would fail. But if he was a fool to do that he would lose the light in his eyes very quickly and then what is he going to do for the rest of his shinobi life? So kakashi tries his best without using his MS so he can save it for important battles. E.g this one against madara and obito

He could have, But Kakuzu would just come back because of Obito and they'd have to fight Kakuzu again.
