He obviously wanted an Uchiha to come along. But in all honesty, what are the chances of that happening? And what are the chances that this Uchiha also has a somewhat tragic background? And what are the chances he just so happens to be knocked unconsious right over your lair?

He probably planned to kidnap an Uchiha during the war after using Zetsu. Don't forget that Zetsu is able to record fights and whatnot, and travel through the earth at ease. With being able to transform to someone identical to chakra and watch over people via spores? He's a true ninja, he's sneakier than anyone and he can blend in so easy. I'm thinking Madara used Zetsu to watch over candidates (Nagato, Obito) so that he could take advantage of them. Madara seems like he has some things figured out but he's been pretty lucky too. His revival and appearance of Hashirama were lucky indeed.

Madara's ingeniousness is the fact that improvised his plan along with what was happening. His plan had failed once Obito turned on him, HOWEVER he kept on improvising.

He was going to do it himself. You think he made zetsus for shits and giggles...? The zetsu would simply transform into him and try to sway people with his name alone, the same way obito did. He already had his pawn(naga to) prepped and his zetsu on the move. Obi to just made it easier since now he had a face who was an actual uchiha and therefore more believeable than a fodder zetsu. Madara didn't need obito. Obito was just randomly placed in the story and given a purpose. He has no real reason to be there other than making up a story of him being lnaruto.

It was only supposed to be White Zetsu, Black Zetsu (AKA Madara's will) and Nagato. Obito was just a bonus.
